Swedish heavy rockersĀ GHOSTĀ have released a new song calledĀ “Hunter’s Moon”. The track, which was produced byĀ Klas Ć hlundĀ and mixed byĀ Andy Wallace, is featured in the latest blockbuster installment of the legendary film franchiseĀ “Halloween Kills”. TheĀ “Halloween Kills”Ā soundtrack is set to arrive October 15 viaĀ Sacred Bones, with the film hitting theaters (andĀ Peacock) the same day as well.
A series of inspired encounters between creative forces from various worlds of sound and vision has resulted inĀ “Hunter’s Moon”, the infectious first new track fromĀ GHOSTĀ since 2019’sĀ “Seven Inches Of Satanic Panic”, and its phantasmagoric video directed byĀ Amanda Demme.
The genesis ofĀ “Hunter’s Moon”Ā can be traced back toĀ GHOST‘s November 16, 2018 show at the Forum in Los Angeles.Ā Ryan Turek, vice president of feature film development atĀ Blumhouse ProductionsĀ (“Get Out”,Ā “Insidious”,Ā “The Purge”,Ā “Us”,Ā “Whiplash”) attended the sold-out show, striking up an instant rapport withĀ GHOST‘s mastermindĀ Tobias ForgeĀ ā one that developed quickly and deeply via meetings, podcast appearances, and ultimately a visit with co-writer and directorĀ David Gordon GreenĀ on the North Carolina set of the upcomingĀ “Halloween Kills”.
Three years nearly to the day since that first fateful exchange,Ā GHOST‘sĀ “Hunter’s Moon”Ā has materialized on DSPs, will play as theĀ “Halloween Kills”Ā end credits roll, and will be released January 21, 2022 as a collectible seven-inch single byĀ Loma Vista Recordings.Ā “Hunter’s Moon”Ā can be streamed, purchased, and/or pre-ordered in its vinyl incarnation. The retail version of the seven-inch will feature the special B-sideĀ “Halloween Kills (Main Title)”, performed, produced and engineered byĀ John Carpenter,Ā Cody CarpenterĀ andĀ Daniel Davies.
“Hunter’s Moon”Ā featuresĀ OPETH‘sĀ Fredrik Ć kessonĀ on guitar andĀ THE SOUNDTRACK OF OUR LIVESĀ founderĀ Martin HederosĀ on the piano. ProducerĀ Max GrahnĀ and “A Ghoul Writer” are listed as the song’s composers and lyricists.
Earlier this month,Ā GHOSTĀ announced a 26-date co-headlining U.S. arena tour withĀ VOLBEATĀ and special guestsĀ TWIN TEMPLE, coming to cities including Seattle, Denver, Chicago, Houston, and Phoenix.
Last October,Ā ForgeĀ toldĀ Sweden Rock MagazineĀ that he was planning to enter the studio in January to begin recordingĀ GHOST‘s fifth album. “The actual recording will last around six weeks and then there’s two to three weeks of mixing and mastering,” he said. “So sometime in March the record should be finished, but it won’t be released until after the summer. As it looks now, knock on wood, we will then go on tour. We won’t release an album until we know that we are actually going on tour. The album release will coincide with the start of a tour. Of course, we could announce an album release date and then, for some reason, it might not be possible to tour, but that’s a whole other matter.”
In March 2020, at final show ofĀ GHOST‘sĀ “Prequelle”Ā tour in Mexico City, Mexico, the band officially introducedĀ Papa Emeritus IV, the new character who will front the act for its next LP phase.
ForgeĀ performed as a “new”Ā Papa EmeritusĀ on each of the band’s first three LPs, with each version ofĀ PapaĀ replacing the one that came before it.Ā Papa Emeritus IIIĀ was retired in favor ofĀ Cardinal CopiaĀ before the release of 2018’sĀ “Prequelle”.
In October 2019,Ā ForgeĀ confirmed to U.K.’sĀ Kerrang!Ā magazine that there would be a new character frontingĀ GHOSTĀ by the time the group’s next LP sees the light of day.
“Prequelle”Ā debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 and featured the chart-topping singlesĀ “Rats”Ā andĀ “Dance Macabre”.
In December 2018,Ā GHOSTĀ nabbed twoĀ GrammyĀ nominations, “Best Rock Album” forĀ “Prequelle”Ā and “Best Rock Song” forĀ “Rats”.
Five years ago,Ā GHOSTĀ became the first Swedish rock band ever to win aĀ GrammyĀ ā 2016’s “Best Metal Performance” for the songĀ “Cirice”.
DED's second full-length album,Ā "School Of Thought", will be released on October 15 digitally viaĀ Suretone Records, with the physical release dropping on November 19. "We are elated to release our sophomore albumĀ 'School Of Thought', as we really pushed ourselves outside of our comfort zone and that is where growth and great things can happen," shares singerĀ Joe Cotela. "A school of thought is the perspective of a group of people who share […]
